Many agricultural products release ethylene gas after harvest. Ethylene is a plant hormone that accelerates the aging process and ripening of plant tissue. While it can improve the taste and appearance of fruits, post-harvest ethylene emissions can also cause them to ripen too quickly, as well as accelerate the aging of produce and flowers, causing them to wilt or soften. Furthermore, ethylene gas can create a pathway for harmful bacteria infiltration. By using an ethylene gas absorber to remove the gas that causes aging, fruits and flowers can be kept fresh during long-term storage and shipping, helping to maintain their overall quality.
